Shenzhen Design Week 2018 Open Call

Overview

Sponsored by Shenzhen Municipal Government, Shenzhen Design Week (SZDW) is organised by Shenzhen City of Design Promotion Office with Shenzhen City of Design Promotion Association (SDPA) serving as Secretariat and co-organised by international design institutions, local design professional associations, design schools and cultural departments of all districts in the city. Shenzhen will organise Design Week in late April annually and the permanent slogan is “New Era, New Design”.

The 1st Shenzhen Design Week was held in April 2017 in 16 cultural and creative venues across the city. In these venues there were 45 key events including Design·Future Theme Exhibition, Cities of Design Exhibition, SZ-HK Twin-Cities Design Exhibition, Global Creative Forum and many others. More than 200 designers from 18 countries participated and over 2,000 design projects including products, furniture, menswear, interactive installation and multi-media were presented, attracting over 100,000 visitors in one week’s time.

The 2nd Shenzhen Design Week will open on 20th April 2018 and ends on 30th April 2018. The theme for this year is “Possibilities of Design”. Main venues will be the Shenzhen Sea World Culture and Arts Centre and MOCAPE (Museum of Contemporary Art and Planning Exhibition). Other exhibitions and activities will spread across the city and the forms of activity include but are not limited to forums, lectures, exhibitions, award ceremony, performances, interactive installations, fashion show etc.

This year’s SZDW will be more than an event simply presenting and communicating about design. It highlights the connection and influence between design and industry, design and the society. The ultimate purpose of cross-disciplinary and cross-border communication is to introduce top designers and design projects from around the world into Shenzhen while helping more people understand the concept of “Shenzhen Design”, enhancing people’s perception of design and thus enable design to engage and change people’s lives.
