What is China Now?

China Now is an online resource and platform set up the British Council China Arts team for UK arts and creative professionals with an interest in mainland China and Hong Kong. It is a free membership platform. Which offers arts events across China, as well as access to exclusive feature stories, news, opportunities and reports.

When are where is the China Now Conference?

China Now Conference is an online conference taking place from 24 to 26 February, 2021. It will be hosted on the platform Zoom in the format of webinars. If you are already a China Now member, please log in your account sign up for sessions. If you are not a member yet, please click here to register and sign up for sessions. You can find our full programme here.

When will I get the webinar links?

The website links will be set to you once you sign up for the sessions. Please check your mailbox after sign up. Don’t forget to check your junk email too.

Who are the speakers for the conference?

The British Council team has brought together artists, professional and experts together from UK and China to discuss about cultural exchanges in the context of the pandemic and pertinent issues about sustainability and inclusion in arts and culture sector. Is the conference in English?

The speakers will speak in the language they are comfortable with, be it in Chinese or English. The conference will have simultaneous interpretation from Chinese to English and British Sign Language interpretation for each session. All webinars will be recorded and later uploaded to China Now website for future reference.

How to participate a Zoom webinar?

1)Please install Zoom Desktop Client or Mobile app first. You can find the installation link here.

2)To join the webinar, click the link that we have sent to you.

3)If prompted, enter your name and email address, then click Join Webinar or tap Join.

You may also want to check whether you have upgraded Zoom to the latest version to enjoy its full functions.

When will the conference start?

The conference will start everyday from 9:30 am to 12:30 am GMT with 3 independent sessions each day. If the host hasn’t started broadcasting the webinar or is preparing using a practice session, you’ll receive the following message:

“Please wait for the host to start this webinar.”

If you receive a message showing the date and time of the webinar, check the date and start time of the webinar including the timezone. Make sure to join when the webinar starts.

How can I interact with speakers and give feedback?

Each session will have some time for Q&A. Audience is encouraged to use the Q&A function during the webinar and our team will moderate questions and ask our guest speakers at the session. At the end of each session, there will be a quick survey for audience to tell us their feedback on the conference and thoughts for future engagement.
